With a whopping 1.2 million followers, multiple health activist awards, features in The Wall Street Journal and The Atlantic, and memorable mentions by wellness giants like David Wolfe, Dr. Mark Hyman, and Mike Adams from Natural News, Hypothyroid Mom is turning the thyroid world on its head. And it's about time.
I am Dana Trentini, founder of Hypothyroid Mom.
What's crazy about the success of Hypothyroid Mom? I had never used Facebook or Twitter before the launch of hypothyroidmom.com on October 1, 2012.
People ask me all the time, "Why did you create Hypothyroid Mom?"
Rage. It was pure rage.
On a cold snowy day in New York City on January 20, 2009, I had miscarried my baby at 12 weeks and was being prepared for a D&C, a surgical procedure to remove my baby. A technician had just taken an ultrasound and walked out of the room to reconfirm to the medical staff that my fetus had no heartbeat. I sprang off my bed and ran to the image on the screen. I felt my body shake and my fists clench as I stared at the image of my unborn child. From a place deep in my soul came a wail, "What happened to my child?"
I had unnecessarily lost my unborn baby all because my doctors had not read the 2007 Endocrine Society guidelines for pregnancy. A TSH of less than 2.5 in the first trimester was clearly stated and mine was close to 10.0 with raging symptoms. I will tell others. I will let the world know. I promised. And Hypothyroid Mom was born.
What started as a way to fulfill that vow I made to my lost baby in 2009 and warn people everywhere has broadened into a website dedicated to helping the 750 million people - men, women, and children - with thyroid disease around the world.
I won't stop until I find the 750 million. Just watch me.
I've been researching for some time to create an online supplement store just for Hypothyroid Mom, one where top-quality supplement brands normally exclusively sold in doctors' offices but at better prices would be available, and I've done it here at PureRXO. I hope this makes selecting and ordering great supplements an easy process for my Hypothyroid Mom followers.
For years I've turned myself into a human guinea pig trying many different types and brands of supplements to find ones that work. I've researched supplements for more hours than I can count and I've been blessed to include some of the world's top thyroid and health experts to write guest posts at Hypothyroid Mom that include their favorite supplements. You'll find my "My Picks" in the header where I've carefully narrowed down all the supplements that I love into a short list of supplements that I know will make a difference in a hypothyroid person's life. I would love to hear from you about your experience and symptom improvements firstname.lastname@example.org so that I can continually refine that list to make it the best list to hit the thyroid world. Remember that our bodies are all so different and some may react negatively to ingredients in some of the supplements. It is tricky being a thyroid patient when our bodies are so unique. I recommend you try one supplement and give some time before you introduce the next so that you can see how your body reacts to each one.
*An important reminder: Hypothyroid Mom, including this online supplement store at PureRXO, is for information purposes only and should not be considered a substitute for consulting your physician regarding medical advice pertaining to your health. Always speak with your doctor before trying a new supplement especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or under the care of a physician for a health condition. Some supplements may be contra-indicated with certain medications that you may be taking including heart-related medication like Coumadin (Warfarin). I've created these lists for adults only in mind so please contact your child's doctor should you be searching for supplements for a child.
